DESCRIPTION:
LPW - Elgin, 15J, 8S, 14K gold drum style original Dueber HC with unusual scalloped and beeded band, front with scene of a young man carrying a spear with a bird draped over his shoulder and holding a hunting dog, rear with scene of a bird and nest, gold cuvette with name and 1884 date, white enamel SS dial, nickel damascene, s#1371662. Gross weight of assembled watch 43.3 dwt (67.3 g). An exceptional case with its very unusual band design giving it a striking in-hand appearance.
CONDITION:
Mvt: NR, fully wound, balance swings freely but without escapement engagement suggesting a possible broken or missing roller jewel though we have not disassembled to confirm, overhaul needed, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, some toning of plates, fine scratch below s#; dial flawless in visible portion; fair hands, hour with substantial oxide; case shows hardly any wear, two dings toward upper-left of rear which have subtle outward appearance but are more evident to inner surface of lid, corresponding dings to cuvette, superb engraving detail, case front opens sluggishly and needs a nudge of assistance through the final portion of its opening range, case rear opens short of 90 degrees (to approximately 75 degrees); tight bow, crown shows light wear; good glass crystal.
